cognitive approach Flashcards
What are the assumptions of the cognitive approch?
1.Psychology needs to study mental processes, because behaviour cant be studies just in simple-stimuli response.
2.The brain is build like a computer, meaning the stimuli is the inpt, and the response/behaviour is the outpt.
3.The mind uses theoretical models.
what is the mental process in which we detect a stimuli in our environemnt?
Perception
what is the mental process of selecting which stimuli we respond to?
Attention.
What is the mental process by which we store informsation?
Memory.
Is it treu that the mind has a limited capacity?
Yes.
What are the two ways in which mental processing can occur? and explain both of them.
- mental processes can occur in a sequence.
- Or mental processes can occur in the same time, we say they are parallel.
What is a schema?
Schemas are mental framewroks that we form from our own experience.
What is assimiliation in schemas?
It means when a new experience, matches our schema, and is incorporated into our schema.
What is accomodation in schemas?
When we change a schema, in order to match new information, we call this accomodation.
