Q

Can you provide examples of how you’ve worked in cross-functional teams to achieve common goals?

A

Putting together a magazine or website is always a cross-functional team. You need designers, illustrators, writers all working together. You succeed when everyone has:
* common goals established
* clear objectives and roles
* open communication and collaboration alignment on priorities and deadlines leveraging diverse perspectives and expertise
* checkpoints to track progress and address challenges
* build consensus

Q

How do you handle a writer or artist who is not doing well on projects? Can you give an example of this?

A

Coaching model: My best results have come with the coaching model, and with that you give the person you’re working with what they need as an individual to grow. Some need more encouragement, some need more steering toward the goals of the brief, etc.

The example that comes to mind is working with a writer who was very adventurous and liked to go off on tangents. Unfortunately they had trouble with tone and staying on brand. I helped them by being careful with the brief for the project and reviewing goals for tone. I encouraged them to keep being brave with their writing.
