What is a fragment
A small part broken or separated off something.
Sentence
set of words that is complete in itself, typically containing a subject and predicate, conveying a statement, question, exclamation, or command, and consisting of a main clause and sometimes one or more subordinate clauses.
Clause
said to consist of a subject and predicate.
Independent clause
An independent clause is a clause that can stand alone as a sentence
Dependent clause
A dependent clause is a group of words with a subject and a verb. It does not express a complete thought so it is not a sentence and can’t stand alone.
Comma
punctuation mark (,) indicating a pause between parts of a sentence.
Complex sentence
It sentence containing a subordinate clause or clauses
Simple sentence
A sentence consisting of only one clause, with a single subject and predicate.
Compound sentence
A sentence with more that one subject or predicate
