What were the tensions that arose from yalta

A

The western allies were concerned because the ussr wanted poland’s western frontier moved into germany and have the german population removed.
Disagreed over how much should germany pay, stalin wanted more then the west had wanted

A

What tensions arose from potsdam

A

The west was suspicious of ussr intentions in eastern europe, in march polish leaders were imprisoned in moscow and the communists ruled the govtnment.
Far more germans were expelled then the west wanted.
Truman did not tell stalin about the bombs in hiroshima and nagasaki.
Truman was very suspicious of stalins motives, they had the largest army in the world and stalin refused to cut down his forces, they were also trying to set up their own atomic bomb.

A

It was essencially helping war torn countries economically to stop the spread of communism between 1948 and 1952, the usa gave 12.7 billion dollars in aid and an additional 13 billion already before the plan was in place

What was comecon

A

Stalin wanted the satellite states to not be influenced by the usa and to not accept marshall aid and to keepthem in control so he created comecon and established it in 25 january 1949, the members were bulgaria, czechoslovakia, hungary, poland, romania and east germany. Albania joined the following year, itw as basically the opposite of the marshall plan and supported the countries in it

A

Its basically was a political orginisation and it was et up on stalins orders in 22 september 1947, it had bulgaria, czechoslovakia, hungary, poland, romania, yugoslavia, france and italy, it gave a new way for stalin of directing and controlling the governments of these countrys, he made sure they followed only communism and followed moscow.

A

On 14 october 1962 an american spy plane took pictures of what seemed as launch pads for medium range ballistic missiles, which could carry niclear bombs which were capable of destroying many is cities, american intelligen told then president JFK that a fleet of soviet ships were going to cuba, pressumably carrying missiles

How did the usa respond to the cuban missile crisis

A

Since cuba is right under the usa and very close to it aswell, kennedy took thirteen days with the exscutive committee they decided to do a blockade around cuba so the missiles dont get there and schockingly the ships actually started to go back

Why would gorbachev take a risk like this in the cuban misile crisis

A

Well it seems the reason for why gorbachev was sending atomic warheads ro cuba was because the us had missiles in turkey which is under the ussr and they agreed to remove them and to also not invade

What were the consequences of the cuban missile crisis

A

It showed to the world what a nuclear war might be, a hotline was made between washington and moscow, the test babtreaty was made to stop nuclear testing in outer space and under water,this was a step to control niclear weapons, the space treaty was used to stop military attacks from space, and finally the nuclear non prolifiration treaty was signed to stop teh spread of nuckear weapons, countries that signed agreed not to share their nuclear technology

A

Because east berlin grmans decided ro cross the west more since the west had democracy and capitalism while the west was communist so they build a wall so the east and the west would be seperate

What were the impacts of the berlin wall

A

It cut through streets, people tried to escape, many people died from this, over 130 people were killed,trade between the two were stopped, it was essencially what churchill said in his iron curtain speech, it was a literal iron curtain, while the west enjoyed democratic governemnt and market, the east suffered commusism, secret spies that would arrest anyone that opposed the communist views

A

Basically alexander dubceck was chosen as first secretary of the czech republic and put a few new rules
Censorship was relaxed
Critism of the government was allowed
Trades were allowed more
Power was guven to the czech regional government
Trade with the west was increased
Greater freedom was offered

A

They essencially didnt like it, brezhnev urged dubcek not to go too far with his reform, even sending troops ro thresten him and after dubcek invited tito of ugoslavia and ceausescu of romania for talks, he took action

A

On 20 august 1968 500,000 warsaw pact troops invaded czechoslovakia and ended the prague spring, people tried ro fight back like blocking roads and attacking individual tanks, but there were just too many
