Conflict- Scene 1 P
Blanche and Stanley are both established as individual different characters. Through Williams uses characterization and costuming it’s evident that Blanche represents the old South and, Stanley, represents the new south we can also gather that these two sides will struggle to live in peace.

William’s use of dramatic irony allows the audience to observe Stanley, witnessing Blanches warning to Stella and Blanches true feelings towards him. Williams also uses foreshadowing to suggest how the conflict between the two sides will resolve when Stella chooses to run to stanly.

Throughout the play, Williams uses symbolism of bathing to create tension, and an understanding that Blanche feels the need to clean herself from the past.
