  • Randomly assigned roles
  • Behaviour was observed
  • Prisoners were arrested and treated as such, given uniforms and numbers

  • Initially, guards tried to assert their authority and prisoners resisted by sticking together
  • Prisoners became more passive and obedient
  • Guards became meaner, nasty punishments
