Process which results in the ability to accomplish fertalisation
What glands release what hormones to control male reproduction?
Hypothalamus - GnRH
Pituitary gland - FSH and LH
Testicles - Testrone/inhabin/activin/oxytocin
The pineal gland control in the male?
- melatonin controls seasonality
- sperm production is continuous
- enough encouragement will lead to mating outside of season
How is GnRH released?
short bursts not like female who gets a large increase
What causes FSH to increase and decline?
GnRH =increase
Inhabin = decrease
Activin = increase
What does FSH do in the male?
initiates spermatogenesis
What increases and decreases LH?
GnRH = increase
Testostrone = decrease
How does LH act?
- frequent secretion at small amplitudes
What decreases testostrone?
LH = increases
What is the purpose of testostrone?
- drives sperm production
- drives development and growth of acessory glands and reproductive organs
- controls libido and reproductive behave
How is inhibin controlled?
increase in sperm production = increase inhibin
decrease in sperm production = increase activin
How is oxytocin released?
- from the sertoli cells
-acts to contract myometrium
