What is the purpose of a coroners inquest?
A
- Establish the fact person died, identity, cause, where & when & circumstances.
- make recommendations to reduce similar deaths
- determine whether further investigation by other authorities would best serve public interest.

Deaths that must be reported are:
A
SCUMBIE
- Suicide
- Cause unknown or no doc cert issued
- Unnatural or violent death
- Medical or surgical or dental operation or procedure
- Birth deaths or deaths that appear to be result of pregnancy or giving birth
- Institutional deaths; i.e. In a psych hospital, youth home, prison or custody.
- Enactment requires the holding of an inquest.

- suicide
- any institutional deaths
- any death where cause or circumstances not clearly established.
