Cranial Nerves Flashcards

Q

Oculomotor

A

III

Somatic motor: supply to the levator palpebrae superioris, superior rectus, medial rectus, inferior rectus, and inferior oblique muscles of the eye

visceral motor: provides the parasympathetic supply to constrictor pupillae and ciliary muscles via the ciliary ganglion

Facial Nerve

A

VII

Branchial motor: special visceral efferent
Supply the stapedius, stylohyoid, posterior belly of digastric muscles, the muscles of facial expression, including the buccinator, platysma and occipitalis muscles

Visceral motor, via Greater petrosal nerve
Stimulation of the lacrimal, submandibular, sublingual glands, mucous membrane of the nose and hard and soft palates

General sensory
General somatic afferent
via chorda tympani
to supply the skin of the concha of the auricle

special sensory: for taste from the anterior two thirds of the otngue and the hard/soft palates

Q

Glossopharyngeal

A

IV

Branchial motor: special visceral efferent
Supply the striated muscle, the stylopharyngeus

Visceral motor: to supply the otic ganglion which sends fibers to the parotid gland

visceral sensory: sensation from the carotid body and from the carotid sinus

General sensory: sensation from the posterior 1/3 of the tongue, skin of the external ear, internal surface of the tympanic membrane

special sensory: taste from the posterior one third of the tongue, external skin on the ear,

Branchial motor: muscles of pharynx, tongue (palatoglossus), larynx (except stylopharyngeus), and the lavator something or other

visceral motor: smooth muscle of the glands, pharynx, larynx, thoracic and abdominal viscera

viscera sensory
from the larynx, trachea, esophagus, and thoracic and abdominal viscera, stretch receptors in the walls of the aortic arch, chemoreceptors
