What is population?
The whole set of items
What is census?
Observes or measures every member of a population
What is a sample?
A selection of observations taken from a subset of the population which is used to find out information about the population as a whole
What is a sampling unit
An individual unit of a population
What is a sampling frame?
A list of all the sampling units
Simple random sample
Random number generator so every sampling unit has an equal chance of being selected
Systematic sampling
Regular interval from an ordered list
Stratified sampling
The population is divided into mutually exclusive strata and a random sample in each of them
Quote sampling
Selects a sample that reflectthe characteristic of the whole population
Opportunity sampling
Most convenient sample, who are available at the time the study is carried out and who fit the criteria your looking for
Quantitative data
Data with numerical observations
Qualitative data
Data with non-numerical observations
Continuous variable
Variable that can take any value in a give range
Discrete variable
Variable that can only take specific values in a given rang
