Definition Flashcards
Ruler
A ruler measures distance in millimetres, centimetres, metres, feet and inches
Protractor
Measures angles in degrees
Thermometer
Measures heat in degrees Celsius and degrees farenheight.
Scales/balance
Measures mass in grams, kilograms, pounds and stones
Measuring cylinder
Measures volume in cm3 and litres
Stopwatch
Measures time in seconds, minutes and hours
Ultrasonic sounds
Ultra sonic sounds are sounds that exist above the human auditory range. So, above 20,000 Hertz(Hz)
Infrasonic sounds
Infrasonic sounds are sounds that exist below the human auditory range. So, below 20 Hertz (Hz)
Volume
The loudness of a sound
Pitch
Hoe high or low a sound is
Frequency
The number of vibrations ( or the number of waves) per second
Amplitude
The size of vibrations or the distance a particle vibrates when a wave passes. The bigger the amplitude the louder the noise.
Wave length
The length of an individual wave, from trough to trough, from peak to peak
Transverse waves
Transverse waves are when the particles move at 90 degree angle to the direction that the energy moves in . Examples are light and water waves.
Longitudes waves
Longitudes waves are when the particles move in the same direction that the energy moves in. An example is sound waves
