The monetary value of all goods and services over time.
Gross Domestic Product
GNP
GDP plus income and expenditure from foreign countries.
Gross National Product
HDI
A composite statistic including life expectancy at birth, mean years of schooling and gross national income per capita.

Life expectancy
The average years a person in a country is expected to live
Birth rate
The number of live births per thousand of population per year.
Death rate
The number of deaths per thousand of the population per year.
Adult literacy rate
The percentage of people aged over 15 talking read and write.
Number of doctors per thousand people
The number of doctors per 1000 people of the population.
Freedom of speech
The right to speak with out censorship or restraint by the government.
Male/female equality
Compares statistics such as the literacy rate and employment between the sexes.
Distribution of wealth
Inequality of wealth is the gap in income between countries richest and poorest people. It can be measured in many ways, e.g. the proportion of a country’s wealth owned by the richest 10% of the population compared to the proportion owned by the remaining 90%.
Unemployment
The number of people who cannot find work.
Access to basic services
The availability of services necessary for a healthy life, such as clean water and sanitation.
Economic structure
The division of the countries economy between primary, secondary and tertiary industries.
Access to technology
Includes statistics such as the percentage of people with access to phones, mobile phones, television and Internet.
