What is severe hypoglycaemia

A

hypo that leads to seizures, unconsciouness or the need for external assistance

How is hypoglycaemia treated

A

immediate treatment= consume 15-20 grams of glucose/simple carbs
recheck blood glucose after15 mins
if still hypo, repeat,
once blood glucose noraml- eat a slow releasing carb if next meal is more than 1-2 hrs away

A

Glucagon 1mg injection into buttock or arm or thigh

individual may experience nausea or vomiting after regaining consciousness (usually within 5-10 mins)
