Flashcards in Diffusion & Osmosis Deck (16):
1

Endocytosis

Active transportation of molecules into the cell by engulfing them.

2

Exocytosis

Active transportation of molecules out of the cell.

3

Hypotonic

-Cell gets bigger
-More solute on inside
-Solvent substance tries to even out concentration of solute molecules

4

Hypertonic

-Cell gets smaller
-More solute on outside
-Solvent substance tries to even out concentration of solute molecules

5

Diffusion

Movement of molecules to balance concentration with no membrane.

6

Osmosis

Movement of molecules to even out concentration with a semipermeable membrane.

7

Concentration Gradient

Difference between concentration

8

Turgor Pressure

Pressure created when a plant cell has too much solvent substance inside of it.

9

Solute

Molecules in solvent substance.

10

Cytolysis

When an animal cell has too much solvent substance and ruptures.

11

Active Transport

Requires energy

Ex. endo/exocytosis, pinocytosis, phagocytosis

12

Passive Transport

Does not require energy

Ex. diffusion, osmosis

13

Pinocytosis

Endocytosis with liquid molecules.

14

Phagocytosis

Endocytosis with solid molecules.

15

Plasmolysis

The process of a plant cell shrinking after being in a hypertonic solution.

16

Bulk Transport

Movement of macromolecules in/out of cell.
