Q

Were does most digestion occur?

A

Most digestion occurs in the small intestine. It is very long, and is also folded to increase its surface area to absorb the broken down food

Q

What does the pancreas and the gall bladder do?

A

The gall bladder and pancreas secrete more digestive juices and enzymes into the small intestine to break down the large molecules further.

16
Q

How does digestion work?

A

The salivary glands, stomach, pancreas and small intestine secrete onto the food in the digestive system
Enzymes act as biological catalysts
A catalyst is a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction without being used up itself
Enzymes control the speed of almost all chemical reactions in our bodies, mostly in the cytoplasm of our cells

17
Q

What do digestive enzymes do?

A

Digestive enzymes break down the large, insoluble molecules into smaller, soluble ones that can be absorbed

18
Q

Why do we need digestive enzymes?

A

The food we eat contains very large molecules that cannot pass through the wall of the small intestine into the blood
Digestive

19
Q

Where are most molecules absorbed?

A

Most molecules are absorbed into the blood though the walls of the small intestine
