What is an anatomical position?
body erect, face forward, feet together, palms face forward
Define ‘supine’ position?
lying face upward (in an anatomical position)
What is a prone position?
lying face downward (in an anatomical position)
What is meant by the term superior?
towards the head end of the body
What is the other term for superior?
Cephalic
What is meant by the term inferior?
away from the head end of the body
What is the other term for inferior?
Caudal
What is meant by the term medial?
Towards the midline
What is meant by the term lateral?
further away from the midline
What is meant by the term proximal?
limb related, closer to centre/point of attachment
What is meant by the term distal?
limb relates, further away from point of attachment
What is meant by the term superficial?
towards the surface
What is meant by the term deep?
away from the surface
What is meant by the term anterior?
forward
