Displasment+Density of water/Dinsity of objects+Short answer Flashcards
Regularly shaped objects
Have a shpae that can be measured (using a ruler)
irregularly shaped objects
Have a shape that cannot be measured (using a ruler)
What is displasment
Dipped into a fluid and pushes the fluid out of the way to take it’s place
What is displacment (volume)
The amount of water displced can be mesure which determins the volume of the object displacing it
Short answer: Explain how an index card can hold water inside of a cup when the cup is inverted.
the force of the water pushing down is lower than the force of atmospheric pressure, which is pushing up on the card.
What is density
Amount of mass in a given volume
What does density equal
Densty is equal to mass divided by volume
What is density abrivieations (for ex: centimeters=cm)
Densty is g/ml or g/cm to the 3rd power
What is masses abriveations
Mass is g (kg maybe not on test)
What is volumes abrivations
Volume is ml or cm to the 3rd power
Trangle power! MASS, VOLUME, DENISTY
Mass
divided by
Volume x Density
Density of water is
1.00 g/ml
If density is less than water
Float
If density is greater than water
Sink
Short answer: Why does water spill out of the index card and the cup?
the force of gravity pulls down on the water.
