Amoxycillin

A

Oral - 500mg TDS
Otitis media - 15mg/kg up to 500mg, 8hrly for 5 days.
Mild CAP - 1000mg, 8hrly for 5-7days

Treats:
Moderate spectrum
-	Listeria
-	Gram negative cocci
-	Gram negative bacilli 
Eg. bacterial sinusistis, otitis media,

875mg/125mg bd for 10 days (pyelonephritis)

A

Cephalosporin

Acute pyleonephritis, UTIs, skin infections (cystitis, folliculitis, impetigo, boils/carbuncles)

Chloramphenicol (topically for bacterial conjunctivitis)

A

Other antibacterial

Topical
0.5% eye drops – 1-2 drops every 2h in the first 24h.  to 6 hrly as infection improves (up to 7 days)

1% ointment – used at bedtime

Doxycycline

A

Tetracycline
Generally used when penicillin hypersensitivity present.

Oral
100mg bd
	EO = 14 days
	Acute bacterial sinusitis = 5-7 days
	Moderate CAP = 7 days
200mg for 1st dose then 100mg bd for 5 days (mild CAP)
EO
Urethritis/cervictitis (clamydia and gonorrehae infections)
Acute bacterial sinusitis
Mild CAP
Moderate CAP
Legionella pneumonia (5-14days)
Mycoplasma paneumoia (up to 14 days)
Acne & Rosatia (50mg daily)
Prevention of Malaria (100mg daily)
