ECG Flashcards
What should be done first?
Clean hands
Introduction
Explanation and consent
Ensure patient is comfortable
What should be made sure of regarding the machine before starting
Plugged into mains
Untangle wires
Where should the limb leads be attached?
On the inside of wrists and ankles
Where do the precordial limb leads go?
V1 - 4th intercostal space right side
V2 - 4th intercostal space left side
V3 - inbetween V2 and V4
V4 - 5th intercostal space mid clav line (apex beat)
V5 - same level as lead V4 on the anterior mix-auxiliary
line
V6 - same level as V4 and V5 on the mid auxiliary line
From right arm - left arm - left leg - right leg what colour leads go to these?
Ride - Your - Green - Bike
Red - Yellow - Green - Black
.What should be done once all leads are attached
Ask patient to remain very still
Print the ECG
What does ARI BAR stand for?
Any electrical activity
Rate
Irregular or regular rhythm
Broad or narrow QRS
Atrial presence
Atrial relationship to ventricular activity
How do we calculate a rate?
Counting number of large squared between two QRS complex peaks and dividing that into 300
Counting number of peaks in 30 squared and times this by 10
How many seconds does one large box show?
How many seconds does one small box show?
- 20s
0. 04s
When does a QRS complex become broad?
If over 0.12s - 3 small squares
Count from Q to S
How do we assess the relationship between atria and ventricles ?
Is every P wave followed by a QRS complex and vice versa
What is the PR interval? - Should be 0.12 - 0.20s - 3-5 small squares
