A

Advect means the transport of an atmsphere property (temperature, humidity) by moving air.

What is a “rain shadow”?

A

A rain shadow is the drier side of a mountain - the wind has pushed air air over the mountain, so it rained on one side and is dry on the other side. The drier side is the rain shadow.

What is Frontal Rain?

A

When cold (polar) air meets warm (tropical) air they create a front (instead of mix), the warm air rises above the cold air and then it rains.

What is Orographic Rain?

A

When air is pushes by wind over a mountain, it gets colder in the process and rains down. When the air comes down after the mountain, it gets warmer and therefore drier again.

When the sun warms the land, the land warms the air, so the air rises up to a point where the water condenses and rains down.
