In attempt to prevent economic depression by reducing military expenditure to the 2% pre-war of GDP from 45% in 1945, the US created the MIC. In Berlin June 1948 US had backing to escalate knowing they could afford $500million airlift and MIC encouraged US expansion of global security e.g. Greece
