Electromagnetic Spectrum Flashcards
What does EM stand for
Electromagnetic spectrum
what part of the EM spectrum can be used for
Radio waves, infrared rays, visible light, ultraviolet rays, X-rays, and gamma rays are all types of electromagnetic radiation
Increasing waves
radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays
Decreasing waves
Gamma rays,X-rays,ultraviolet,visible light, infrared, microwaves and radio waves
Increasing frequency
radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays
Decreasing frequency
Gamma rays,X-rays,ultraviolet,visible light, infrared, microwaves and radio waves
What does EM spectrum stand for
Electromagnetic spectrum
Increasing energy
radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays
Decreasing energy
Gamma rays,X-rays,ultraviolet,visible light, infrared, microwaves and radio waves
Effects EM spectrum waves have on the body
Radio waves-passing through the body without being absorbed
Microwaves-microwaves maybe be absorbed meaning heating of the cells, which may be dangerous
Infrared radiation- reflected or absorbed by the skin, causing some heating too. It can cause burns to the skin if it gets too hot
Visible light-reflected or absorbed by the skin but can cause some heating effects
Ultraviolet-damages cells which may cause genetic mutations and cancer and can lead to tissue damage or radiation sickness
X-rays- cell damage
Gamma rays- may harm cells
