What is dynamics?
The loudness or softness thoughout the music
What is rhythm?
The relative duration of notes or pitches and the relationship to the beat ( tempo)
What is the Tempo?
The beat that is the basic steady pulse of the piece ( what you can tap your foot to)
What is timbre?
Each instrument has its own colour ( musical theater vs pop music )
What is texture?
how the parts of the piece are made up
What is monophony?
One melody ( singing a song with no accompaniment)
What is homophony?
The melody with a harmonic accompaniment
What is polyphony?
Many melodies at the same time ( counterpoint in musicals)
What is Harmony?
- pitches the sound together to make a chord
- only exists with melody
- Harmony can sometimes change the way we hear melody
What is an example of Harmony?
Tonic or the home key
- circles back to the original key
( twinkle twinkle little star)
What is form?
The structure of the music and how it may be arranged. ( the most important part of form is in the beginning )
What is the most common form?
verse- chorus
