Embryology Flashcards
When does the gut tube start developing?
29 days
What two layers of germ line tissue does the gut develop from?
Endoderm and mesoderm
Which tissue does the liver develop from?
Endoderm
What cells does the endoderm include?
Mucosal epithelium, mucosal glands and submucosal glands
What cells does the mesoderm include?
Lamina propria, smooth muscle, blood vessels and serosa
What happens around days 35 - 39?
Gut and duodenum become distinguishable.
Ventral pancreatic bud starts to develop from the liver bud.
Dorsal pancreatic bud starts to develop from the duodenum. It is larger.
What happens around days 40-55?
Liver begins to grow. Gall bladder and biliary ducts take shape.
Endoderm develops into branched tubules.
Islets of Langerhans form at duct branch, disconnect from duct.
What happens around 6 weeks?
Primary rotation - duodenum C shape, ventral pancreas moves towards dorsal pancreas.
What happens around day 56?
Pancreatic portions fuse, ventral pancreas becomes uncinate process.
Dorsal pancreatic duct fuses with common bile duct or remains attached to gut.
Ventral pancreatic duct attached to duodenum.
