What is the endocrine system?
Body is controlled by chemicals called hormones.
What is the main fuction of the glands?
They discrete hormones directly into the blood stream
What is the function of hormones?
They are carried around the body by the blood and act on target organs to produce an effect.
Name the glands in the endocrine system
Pituary gland thyroid pancreas testes ovaries adrenaline gland.
What is the function of the pituary gland?
Produces hormones that regulate body codotopns. these hormones act on other glands. They direct them to relase hormones to change.
What is the function of the pancreas?
Releases hormones and controls concentration of glucose in the blood.
What is the function of the testes/ovaries?
releases hormones involved with puberty and reproduction.
What is the function of the adrenaline gland?
Releases hormones in time of stress or fear.
What is the function of the thyroid?
Realese hormones for growth and basal metabollic rate.
What are the differences between nerves and hormones?
Nevers= faster action, short time,act on specific area
hormones= slower action, long period of time, general area
