What do food chains show?
They show which organisms consume which organisms and they also show the transfer of energy from organism to organism
What usually happens in a good chain?
Energy from the sun enters most food chains when green plants absorb sunlight to photosynthesise, feeding passes this energy and BIOMASS from one organism to the other along the chain
What do all food chains start with
A producer
What is usually a producer
A green plant but some producers make food by chemical reactions
What consumes the producer
A primary consumer
What comsumes the primary consumer
A secondary consumer
What comsumes a secondary consumer
A tertiary consumer
How can food chain energy be lost
As heat during respiration, as excretion and egestion which is the removal of undigestes food
A large proportion of mass is water, how do we measure this more accurately and what problems can it cause?
Experiments involve heating the organism to a constant mass. This is destructive and causes ethical issues
