Indications for Tonsillectomy
A
- 5+ tonsillitis (not just URTI) yearly for > 1 year
- episodes disabling and preventing normal function
OR
- recurrent febrile convulsions
- obstructive sleep apnoea
- stridor, dysphagia
- quinsy not responding to treatment

Complications of Tonsillitis
A
- otitis media
- quinsy (peritonsillar abscess)
- strep sequelae: rheumatic fever, post-strep GN

A
First 24h:
- haemorrhage (2 - 3%)
- pain
First 10 days:
- haemorrhage (secondary to infection)
- pain
