Evolution Flashcards
What is evolution?
Change over time
Who is Charles Darwin?
He is the father of evolution
What is the name of the boat the Darwin voyaged on?
HMS Beagle
Darwin studied on the
Galápogose islands
What are the 6 kinds of fossils?
Mineralization, Carbonization, Molds, Casts, Trace fossils, Original Material
What is mineralization?
Dead organisms get buried under mud, sand, or other sediments in a stream or river.
What is carbonization?
When a dead organism is compressed over time and pressure drives off an organisms liquids and gases.
What are molds?
A dead organisms structure makes an impression in mud or sand.
What are casts?
A copy of an organism in a rock.
What are trace fossils?
Tracks of an animal on ground or on any surface.
What is original material?
When a dead organism is in tree sap (for example)
What is law of super position?
Any undisturbed layer of rock
Where is the youngest layer of the ground located?
At the top
Where is the oldest layer of ground?
At the bottom
What are the six proof of evolution?
Camouflage, mimicry, homologous structure, analogous structure, embryology
