Q

Explain EHDI’s 1-3-6 goal and describe changes to this goal that EHDI recommended in their 2019 position paper.

A

1: All infants should have a hearing screening before 1 month of age, but ideally before hospital discharge. Those who don’t pass the first screening should be rescreened.
3: All infants who do not pass the hearing screening should receive a full diagnostic audiological evaluation by three months of age.
6: All infants who are identified with a hearing loss should receive early intervention by six months of age (including amplification and early intervention services)
- The 2019 position statement encourages 1-2-3
