Exam tips, work through 10 mins before the exam Flashcards

1
Q

Follow the CTF protocol! Remember to follow each command word’s process!

Discuss

Advantage/Disadvantage— Explain why

Justify

Define ——- Specific e.g for each mark— Explain outcome

Explain, Suggest, Outline and Describe

Identify/define– why/how— Give an example

Analyse and Evaluate

Follow the explain process – Specify the outcome of the strength of weakness to performance

If in doubt get your example out!

A

The most common reason for dropping marks is because the student forgets to follow the command words unique process!

Q

If you are answering a question and cannot think of another point, look through the exam paper and look at the different topics within each question.

This might help jog your memory about points you can make whilst following the process of each command word

Question

Discuss whether Weight training is an effective method of training for a footballer [4 marks]

A

Possible topics you could discuss which will be included in other questions on the paper

  • Energy systems
  • Components of fitness
  • Methods of training
  • Principles of training

* 3 generic disadvantages

Q

Remember all of the strategies we’ve put in place, such as;

Three Generic Disadvantages/Weaknesses

  1. It does not replicate competeitve conditions as their are no defenders present, this is a weakness because
  2. It does not replicate sporting movement such as lifting in a lineout, this is a weakness because
  3. It is not sport specific as it does not improve skills such as passing, this is a weakness because

Methods of training

Someone should force cheeky children into plastic wardrobes

Planes and Axis

Some —> Times

Fun —-> Starts

Too —-> Late

Levers

Levers= 1,2,3 think F,L,E

If you work out the plane, you will also know the axis if your remember the above rule as the axis is opposite the plane

A

Fulcrum is the joint

Load is the item or body weight

Effort is the muscle

Plane= Saggital

Axis=Transverse

Q

Be specific and don’t leave anything to chance!

Ensure you follow the command word, give examples etc

Don’t just write short answers, e.g

Plane = Sagittal

Axis= Transverse

rather than Sagittal or Transverse

You got this!

Q

Images are tricky so read the question! You may need to think about the direction of the completed movement.

For exmple Usain bolt is moving upright to get into his sprint technique

A

Hip= Extension because he will eventually be stood upright, increasing the angle at the joint

Ankle= Plantarflexion

Q

If asked to work out the Agonist, type of contraction, type of movement remember to perform the movement if you’re unsure of the answer.

Agonist is the muscle that is in “agnony”

A

Agonist=Bicep

Antagonist=Tricep

Type of muscle contracion= Bicep concentrically contracts during the upwatd phase and eccentrically during the downward

Type of movement- Flexion

Ligamnets connect the humerus and radius at the elbow joint

Tendon connects bicep to the humerus

Q

In relation to 6 and 9 mark questions, this is what you need to do to gain full marks

AO1= Define or identify the topic

AO2= Apply directly to the athlete, Explain (give an example) If and how it relates to the athlete

A03= Obey the command word, but give examples and explain the effects/outcomes to performance

*You can gain a mark by suggesting and explaining the impact of something else within that topic

Q

How do you gain full marks for a question that asks for an example from a named sporting activity or to provide a sporting action?

A

If the question does not specify the sport the example must come from, you can select any sport you like.

If it asks from Athletics, then give one from Athletics

Example 1- An example of concentric contraction is the upward phase of a bicep curl.

Example 2- An example of Agility is a winger sidestepping a defender in Rugby

Q

Mr Stephens special tip:

When following the process for each command word, it may be a good idea to use the terms associated with that command word in your answer to guide the marker. See below for examples.

This is a strength because…..

This is an advanatage because…..

This is a weakness because ………..

This will increase the likelihood of winning because…….

An example is ……..

The outcome on performance is ………..

A

Don’t leave anything to chance!

Q

How do you answer questions that ask you to Justify, Evaluate, Discuss or Analyse?

A

Firstly, provide a definition

I need to think like a performance analyst and break the question down into it’s different skills/stages, I then make a point, give an example and explain the outcome for each available mark.

Finally, if you can, give and explain an extra point. E.g 3 mark question give 4 points
