Q

Formation of tissue fluid

A

> when an artery reaches the tissues it branches into arterioles sand then into capillaries
at the arterial end the hydrostatic pressure is high pushing blood out of the capillaries through tiny gaps
the fluid that leaves consists of plasma with dissolved nutrients and O, red blood cells, platelets and WBC remain in blood
tissue fluid surrounds the body cells so exchange of gases and nutrients can occur across the membrane

Q

Returning to the blood

A

not all tissue fluid re enters the blood
> some tissue fluid is directed into the tubular system called the lymph
> this drains excess tissue fluid out of the tissue and returns it to the blood
> the fluid in the lymhatic system is called lymph containing lymphocytes

Q

Movement of fluids

A

> hydrostatic pressure of the blood pushes fluids out of the tissues
hydrostatic pressure of the tissue fluid tends to push fluid into the capillaries
oncotic pressure of the blood pulls water into the blood
oncotic pressure of the tissue fluid pulls water into the tissue fluid
