Exercise Metabolism Flashcards
What is ATP ?
Important source as it serves as energy to many important functions such as celluar functions including active transport of across membranes
Oxidative processes are too slow hence why ATP is present in muscle cells
Another type
Phophocreatine serves as an energy storage containing high eneergy phosphate bonds present in cells
Anaerobic
Energy derived from food without using oxygen
Under Anaerobic conditions :
Carbohydrates are a significant source of energy .
Aerobic
Energy derived from foods using oxygen
Oxygen Consumption
Extra oxygen repays oxygen debt
Metabolic rate
Rate of heart liberation during chemical reactions in all cells of the body
What factors affect metabolic rate ?
Increases agyer a meal ingested , mainly the results of the stimulatory effect of amino acids derived from proteins o the ingested food on chemical processes in the cell
Thyroid and male sex hormones increase metabolic rate whereas sleep and age decrease metabolic rate
Excess post exercise oxygen consumption
Elevated v02 several minutes immediately following excess aerobic metabolism provides the energy to recycle ADP to ATP
Types of Skeletal Muscle fibers
White muscles
Archilles tension
Support muscles that do not contract much in the heal
Red muscles :
Constantly used in arms and legs
Fast twitch
Common in breast
Short bust of strenous exercise
Involves glycoytic anaerobic
Slow twitch
Aerboc
Fatigue less
Long distance
Dark more myoglobin n oxygen stpring protein
Fate of Lacrare
Anaerbic Metabolism
Lactate can stay in teh cell and build uo cause slow glycolgs , fatugue and discomfort
Lactate can leave cells go into the cell
Lactate threshold
Point at which blood
Lactic acid suddenly rises during exercise known as anaeurbic threshold
What is the 2 things lactate effected by ?
Lactate dehydratginetae
Convert pyruvate acid to latic acid
LDH in fast twich muscle fibers favour formation of lactic acid
Hydrogen shuttle :
Excess NADH in sacroplas favors convecion of pyruvuc acid to latic acid .
