Exothermic and Endothermic reactions+Acids and Bases and PH Flashcards
What is Exothermic?
A chemical reaction that releses energy in the form of heat or light. This can be detected by Rise in tempature
What is Endothermic?
A chemical reaction that Absorbs in the form of heat. Endothermic can take energy from their surroundings and lower the tempature
What is an acid?
A compound that breaks up in water producing Hydrogen IONS (H+)
What is a base?
A compound that breaks up in water producing Hydroxide IONS (OH-)
Properties of Acids
Conducts Electricity, Tastes sour, crossive, Blue litmus paper turns red in contract with an acid, reacts with metals to form hydrogen gas, react with bases to form water and salt.
Properties of Bases
Feels slippery, Tastes bitter, Reacts with Acids to form water and salt, conducts electricity, Red litmus paper turns blue in contract with an acid.
What is PH?
PH is a measure of how acidic or basic/alkaline the substancse is
What is water? (Neutral, acidic, or bases)
Neutral
What is water on a PH indicator? (0-14)
7
Up to 14, is acids less than 7 or more than 7?
