A critique of the reality of conflict and its effect on individuals
Our brains ache in the merciless iced east winds thst knives us
‘brains ache’ - metaphor display the stress and metal conflict it causes
‘winds’ - personification. Wind deliberately hurts them - power of external forces
. Knive - knife cuts hurt - it’s likethe wind is a sharp weapon attacking them
. Exaggerates how unpleasant it is and the suffering
Sudden successive flights of bullets streak the sclience. Let’s deadly than the air that shudders black with snow
‘sudden’ out of nowhere
‘successive’ continously
Less deadly - less afraid of being shot at than the external forces - weather. They are more afraid of nature than the physical conflict as nature can cause more harm to them
Mad gusts
Rain soaks
Pale flakes
Different weather changes that appear through out the diferent seasons. Depicts they have been there for a very long time
The burying party picks and shovels in shaking grasp, pause over half known faces, all their eyes are ice
‘burying party’ juxtaposition buries bodies they find that were frozen to death
‘shaking grasp’ fear, worry, upset, or cold
‘picks’ ground is so hard and frozen
‘half known faces’ look and find ppl they are familair with but not friendly with as it would be be more deviating for soldiers if they die
