12
Q

Convection rainfall

A

Sun heats the ground
Warm air rises (convection currents)
The air cools and condenses which cause rainfall

13
Q

Relief rainfall

A

Wind moves the air
When it meets hills or mountains the air is forced to rise up
As it rises it cools

14
Q

Frontal rainfall

A

Big air masses ( large body of air) move around the earth
Warm air meets cold air
Warm air forced to rise up
This causes condensation and rain

Transpiration

A

Evaporation of water from leaves and plants

18
Q

What causes a flood

A
  • Short period of heavy rain ( too much water)
  • Raining for a long period (too much water)
  • Melting snow ( adds volume to the water. The water would melt quickly and it would have nowhere to go)
  • Deforestation ( no interception)
  • Urbanisation ( building are impermeable so the surface run-off on buildings. Not many fields because of buildings so no infiltration
  • Steep land
19
Q

Effects of a flood

A
Business have to close
Deaths/drowning
Damage to buildings
High cost for repairing damages
Crops may be damaged- food shortages
Peoples homes are flooded
