Social factor 2

A

Technology

Can weaken relationships between individuals, family and community due to less face-to-face communication and people being more concerned with social media, and games.

Positive impact:

Can learn and develop skills from games they play on phones. Valuable technology skills in future including speed at typing or improved memory.

Technology provides many positive benefits for learning e.g. all information students need is on google or documents sent by teachers rather than having to look for books in library. Technology improves quality of learning by providing more recourses and different recourses/ways of learning content E.g. quizlets, practice online tests, kahoot, google docks

Negative impact:

Lack of communication causes deterioration in relationships, understanding and empathy towards others. If relationships deteriorate within families, marriages breakdown or children don’t get on with parents, there is an impact on wider community as family members will feel lonely and isolated.

Cause distractions to schooling (going on technology rather than doing homework or schoolwork).

Technology encourages people to be inactive when they get home from school, as opposed to going outside and playing with other kids.

  • Some people have interaction and socialisation difficulties due to language barriers. Local government and community organisations offer specialist services like English classes or specialist food shops servicing ethnic populations.
  • Cultural stereotypes and expectations cause people to feel lost and unplaced within society.
  • Some cultures have strong beliefs about clothing, this can limit individuals as they cannot participate in different sports due to clothing.
  • Some individuals will experience bullying due to their culture and specific clothing that they wear.

A

Socio- Economic Status

  • Determines quality of opportunity a child gets.
  • Well-off families can also offer better learning resources for their children and they afford special aids or tutors if kids need it. Children from poorer families may not have access to educational resources as well as good nutrition so they can have energy to ensure they are reaching full potential.
  • They may also have parents who work long hours and cannot invest enough quality time in their development.
