- deficiency: rickets in children, osteomalacia (bone weakness) in adults

- deficiency: night blindness

- antioxidant - prevents and repairs oxidative damage in cell membranes
- more easily found in foods

- don’t need too much from diet bc produced by intestinal bacteria
- food sources: leafy greens, some fruits, some cheeses, oils

- often present in fatty portion of foods
