Feedback Flashcards
Feedback
Is the information an athlete receives about the performance and outcome of a task.
It can be classified as internal or external feedback.
Internal feedback
Is the use of persons proprioception sensory information relayed from within the muscle.
It’s what you feel during or after you have performed a skill.
These senses help develop a kinaesthetic sense for a movement.
External feedback
Is information received about the performance from various sources outside of the performer such as a coach or teammate.
These are usually verbal, visual or written.
Knowledge of result
Specific feedback about the outcome of the task as opposed to any performance characteristics of the task
Beneficial for learners when developing new skills
Knowledge of performance
Feedback that concerns the characteristics of performing a task, rather than the outcome of the task.
Generally delivered after the performance of the task.
Delivering feedback
External feedback can serve 3 different purposes:
-Fixing errors
-Motivation
-Reinforcement
Important that feedback is viewed as genuine, particularly for reinforcement.
