Feeding Flashcards
1
Q
what are the five principles of nutritional management of disease
A
- each medical condition presents unique nutritional challenges
- Effective implementation of therapeutic nutrition requires diligence—the diet must be fed exclusively (in some cases), which presents economic and emotional challenges to clients and pets.
- Successful implementation of long-term nutritional management is often dependent on visible results in the pet as well as ongoing support by the veterinary team.
- Several manufacturers produce a variety of high-quality clinical diets. Products may differ in some respects due to different approaches to the same disease; be prepared to try more than one product if necessary.
- Relative amounts of the above affect the digestibility, absorption, and utilization of the food.
