What is a simile?
A comparison of 2 objects. Often using the words like or as.
Eg: Oliver ran like the wind!
What is a Metaphor?
A strong Comparison made by stating a thing is another.
Eg: Omar is a beast!
Onomatopoeia
Use of the word that imitate sounds.
Eg: bang, beeb, moo, splash, barked
What is a hyperbole?
Exaggerating in order to draw attention to something or to add a sense of humer.
Ex: Ahmed is as tall as a tree!
What is an Irony?
A statement that it’s true meaning is really the opposite of it’s literal meaning.
Ex: I am really smart, said Omar after getting a bad mark.
What is an Oxymoron?
A phrase that contains words that contradict (تعارض) one another.
Your room is a clean mess.
You are a open secret.
What is a Pun?
Using a word that suggests 2 or more possible meanings due to the similarity in sound.
Eg: Broken pencils are pointless.
What is a personafication?
Giving human characteristics to objects.
Eg: the clouds cried!
What is alliteration?
The repetition of the same sounds in the beginning of words.
Eg: a soldier stood silent and still.
What is an assonance?
The repetition of vowel sounds in nearby words.
Eg: Omar stopped cocked his gun and shot.
What is an imagery use in literature?
The use of description to draw the reader into the story and to allow him to understand more. Used a lot for describing the 5 senses feelings.
Eg: The weird fruit smelled terrible, but tasted sour, sweet and delicious at the same time.
