Firefighter Emergency
What is the definition of a firefighter emergency?
Whenever it is established that one or more firefighters or personnel under the control of the LFB are unaccounted for and/or in need of rescue
Firefighter Emergency
A BA crew has been committed to search a building. You are part of a further BA crew committed to protect their exit with a jet. What would you do if you heard repeated short blasts on a whistle?
Maintain position until the crew whose exit you are protecting has withdrawn then withdraw to entry control officer; unless in your judgement conditions become too dangerous to continue working.

What action should firefighters take upon hearing an emergency evacuation whistle?
Repeat the signal, withdraw to a safe place and assemble at the Incident Control Pump or Control Unit for a roll call

In exceptional circumstances when the incident command team are unable to send the message

What is the definition of a tactical withdrawal?
Crews removed from a specific danger in a safe, planned manner that does not require an emergency evacuation

What is the predetermined attendance (PDA) mobilised upon receipt of a ‘firefighter emergency’ message regardless of the size of the incident
- 6 Pumps (inc 3 PL with WMs in-charge)
- 2 Fire Rescue Units (FRU)
- 1 Fire Investigation Unit (FIU)
- 1 Command Unit (CU)
- 1 ambulance
- 1 Press liaison officer (PLO)
- 1 Fire safety officer (FSO)
- 3 station managers
- Group manager
- Deputy assistant commissioner.
Firefighter Emergency
Whenever it is established or there is strong evidence to suggest that one or more firefighters or personnel working under the control of the LFB are unaccounted for and/or in need of rescue the IC will immediately send the following priority message?
This message must be sent without delay. ‘From (Name of IC) at (address of incident): Firefighter Emergency Tactical Mode Oscar or Delta.

At the roll call of a fire fighter emergency each appliance commander will?
- Report to the booking-in point and retrieve their appliance NRB
- Take a roll call of their appliance crew and report the outcome to the IC or nominated officer
- Return the appliance NRB to the booking-in point
Firefighter Emergency
As soon as possible after sending a ‘FFE’ message, an informative message is to be sent which will include what information?
- Description of the circumstances
- Number of persons unaccounted for or in need of rescue
- Details of action being taken e.g. emergency evacuation, tactical withdrawal or BA crews searching
- Declaration of the size of the incident i.e. the total number of pumping appliances attending the incident but not including those dispatched specifically for the Firefighter emergency
- Tactical mode
