Describe P.A.S.S. and list the steps
(P)ull the pin, (A)im the nozzle, (S)queeze the handle, (S)weep the base of the fire
What defines the class of a fire?
The fuel, because as it varies, so does the fire
What is a Class A fire? What should be used to extinguish them?
Ordinary combustibles (wood, paper, cloths, plastics, rubber). Extinguished with water, water-based agents or foam, and multipurpose dry chemicals)
What is a Class B fire? What should be used to extinguish them?
Flammable and combustible liquids, gases, and greases. Best extinguished with Carbon Dioxide, regular and multipurpose dry chemical, and foam.
What is a Class C fire? What should be used to extinguish them?
Energized electrical equipment. Never extinguished with water. Disconnect or turn off power source, and extinguish with a class C ready extinguisher.
What is a Class D fire? What should be used to extinguish them?
Combustible metals or alloys. Never use water as it may react violently, must use different agents for different material.
What is a Class K fire? What should be used to extinguish them?
Fires in cooking appliances using combustible cooking fuels such as vegetable or animal oils and fats. Use class B extinguisher on low amounts of fuel. Otherwise use “wet Chemicals”
