Fluid Balance Flashcards

1
Q

What are the two main fluids of the body?

Q

How does RAAS work?

A

When blood volume is low specialised cells in the kidney secrets renin
Renin causes angiotensin which is produced by the liver to convert to angiotensin 1
Angiotensin 1 travels in the circulation to the lungs where it is converted to angiotensin 2
Angiotensin 2 causes vasoconstriction to increase peripheral resistance
Stimulates secretion of aldosterone
Aldosterone acts on kidneys to decrease production of urine
