2
Q

Explain low pressure systems in rigid tubing

A

Low pressure systems are below 1000 psi. For ventilating air , pure aluminum is used

Q

Explain medium pressure rigid lines

A

Medium pressure is 1,000 psi to 1,500 psi. And 5052 aluminum alloy is often used

6
Q

How is the size of rigid tubing determined?

A

Rigid tubing size is determined by its outside diameter in increments of 1/16 inch. Therefore a -4 B nut tubing is 4/16 or 1/4 inch in diameter

7
Q

How do you find the inside diameter in rigid tubing

A

Subtract twice the wall thickness (printed on the tube ) from the outside diameter.

Example : if you have -8 tube with wall thickness of 0.072

8/16 = 1/2
0.5-(2x0.072) = 0.356

16
Q

What happens if the flare is to big or to small

A

Leakage will occur

17
Q

What two pieces of hardware go on a tube before flaring

A

A sleeve and a B nut

18
Q

What is a flaring tool plunger

A

The flaring tool plunger is a two piece tool , including the plunger and grip die

19
Q

What is a roll type flaring tool

A

The roll type flaring tool comes with a handle and is one piece

20
Q

AN STEEL fittings are what color

A

AN STEEL fittings are colored black

21
Q

AN ALUMINUM fittings are what color

A

AN ALUMINUM fittings are colored BLUE

22
Q

What’s the difference between AN fitting and AC fitting

A

An AN fitting has a shoulder or recess , and an AC does not, also AN fitting has a longer body length

23
Q

What are used to secure fluid line

A

Clamps are used

24
Q

How do you repair rigid fluids

A

The most common problem in rigid fluids are leakage, depending on the percentage of the scratches and dents , you can decide wether to replace or repair

25
Q

Flexible lines

A

Flexible fluid lines are connected to moving parts and in areas of high vibrations

26
Q

Flexible hose construction

A

A flexible hose consist of an inner line a reinforcement layer and an outer cover

27
Q

The inner line can consist of what materials

A

Neoprene, butyl , buna N , Teflon

28
Q

Explain each inner compound

A

Neoprene : petroleum
Buna N : petroleum
Butyl : no petroleum, yes phosphate ester ( Skydrol)
Teflon : everything yes

29
Q

What are some reinforcement layer

A

Reinforcement layers determine the strength of, some common ones are carbon steel wire , cotton , or stainless steel wire braid

30
Q

What do hoses have a tendency to do

A

Increase in diameter and decrease in length

31
Q

What is a lay line

A

A lay line identifies a hose and it also shows if the hose was installed properly, no twist

32
Q

What are some types of flexible hoses

A

Low pressure 250 psi - 600 psi

Medium pressure 200 psi - 3,000 psi

High pressure 3,000 psi

33
Q

In reusable fittings what do they consist ( flexible hose )

A

A socket, nipple , and a nut
