Forces Flashcards
What is elastic deformation
An object that can go back to its original shape and length after the force has been removed
What is inelastic deformation
An object that doesn’t return to its original shape and length after the force has been removed
What is drag
Resistance you get in fluid
How do you reduce drag
Keep objects streamlined
How does friction work
When it’s in the opposite direction to true movement
What is terminal velocity
Balance between air resistance and weight
What is Newton’s first law?
If true resultant force on a stationary object is zero the object will remain stationary. If the resultant force on a moving object is zero, the same object will carry on moving with the same velocity
What is Newton’s 2nd law?
The acceleration is directly proportional to the resultant force and inversely proportional to the mass
What is Newton’s 3rd law?
When 2 objects interact the forces are equal but opposite
What is inertia
The tendency for motion to remain unchanged
What is the conservation of momentum
Momentum is always conserved, momentum before = momentum after
