A

Plato wrote knowledge was not ‘given’ by the senses but acquired through them and intelligence through reason organised and made sense out of perceptions
Hobbes suggested all mental processes resulted from brain movement activated by interaction with mental and external world
Kant - intelligence in terms of he mind of consisting qualities (causality etc) to allow order and make meaningful sensory information

A

Studied evolution in 1865, then became interested in the variations in human ability, especially intelligence. Forefather of intelligence tests. Felt intelligent people reason to a large range of info through senses. Suggested methods such as reaction time, keenness of sight and hearing etc. first attempts to measure intelligence
