16
Q

What is a homogenous equation?

A

The units on the left ware the same as the units on the right, eg v^2 equals u^2 plus 2as

17
Q

What are the two types of errors?

A

Random and systematic

18
Q

What are random errors?

A

-unpredictable
- will affect gradient of graph
- to reduce this, take multiple measurements

19
Q

What is a systematic error?

A
  • Affects all measurements by the same amount, eg the zero error, or parallax error
  • It will not affect the gradient of the graph but will displace it
20
Q

What is a zero error?

A

EG - having a scale that instead of being at 0, it is displaced by a few grams and all results are displaced by this much

21
Q

What is a parallax error?

A

Where you’re not looking at a measurement at eye level

22
Q

How can we calculate the absolute uncertainty?

A

Half of the range, half of the highest value take away the lowest value

23
Q

Find the absolute uncertainty of the following data set:
9.75
9.60
9.85
9.73

A

9.85-9.60 divided by 2

Mean value = 9.73
So absolute uncertainty is 9.72+-0.0125

24
Q

What is the absolute uncertainty of a device, eg ruler

A

The smallest scale reading of it, for a ruler it would be the given value=-1 mm

25
Q

What is the percentage uncertainty equation?

A

Absolute uncertainty divided by value times 100

26
Q

How do you calculate uncertainties when adding or subtracting values?

A

Add the absolute uncertainties

27
Q

How do you calculate uncertainties when multiplying or dividing values?

A

Add percentage uncertainties

28
Q

What is the percentage. uncertainty in y^n

A

The percentage uncertainty of y multiplied by n

29
Q

What does an error bar tell you?

A

The absolute uncertainty of the measurement

30
Q

How do you draw the line of worst fit?

A

Start at the bottom of the first error bar to the top of the last error bar

31
Q

How do you work out the percentage uncertainty in the gradient?

A

Best gradient-worst gradient divided by the best gradient times 100
