-Numerous interconnecting air-spaces that occur throughout the mesophyll so that gases can come readily into contact
-Large surface area of mesophyll cells for rapid diffusion.

_Minute pores that occur mainly, but not only, on the underside of the cells.
-Each stoma is surrounded by a pair of special cells = Guard cells, and they open and close the stomatal pore.
-∴, they control the rate of gaseous exchange.
