What did Gazzanigas experiment look at?

A

10 split brain patients with a severed corpus callosum.
They were surprisingly normal after surgery apart from if an object was placed in left hand it might be ignored or patients might even deny that there is anything there at all.

What were the three tests that Gazzaniga did?

A

Visual information sent to only one hemi-field ( lights would flash for 1/10th of a second and the patient would have respond whether the lights flashed on the left or the right)
Tactile information to only one hand
Auditory information sent to both hemispheres but response from only one ( could select the right item from the name or description)

What conclusions did Gazzaniga come to?

A

The right hemisphere-sphere can not speak but it can point, draw, gesture and match.
The two hemispheres operate independently
