What is gender bias?
Different treatment of males and females based on stereotypes
What is universality?
Believing behaviours are the same for everyone
What is androcentrism?
Theories that are focused on males
What is an alpha bias?
theories that exaggerates/ overemphasises the difference between men and women
What is a beta bias?
Theories that minimise or underestimate the difference between men and woman
What does freud’s theory show?
An alpha bias as there’s an exaggerated difference between men and women. Reflected how men were seen as more powerful and typically educated. Psychosexual stages and Oedipus complex therefore exaggerates the difference between men and women.
An example of beta bias?
Milgram’s shock experiment initially was used on only American men

-gender bias might result in androcentrism (women’s behaviour perhaps would be seen as abnormal)
-implications for the interpretation of the findings and conclusions from research and how it would be used in society.
How would you deal with gender bias?
-promoting the idea that not all members of a sex are the same
-only generalising research to the specific gender.
